Biography
Born and raised in the 'cradle of jazz' (Kansas City, MO) TRUDI MANN has never wanted to do anything but sing. She had her own trio in high school and went on to sing, professionally, in all the important rooms in KC before taking her swinging jazz trio, TRUDI MANN & MEN, on the road.
Referred to as "A SINGER'S SINGER", "AN ENDANGERED SPECIES,"...."whose hip no-vibrato swinging on snappy up-tempos and exquisite phrasing, makes her ballads truly her own". "An exquisite singer, she brings a style and elegance to a song that is uniquely hers." "....her ballads are a near religious experience". TRUDI'S extensive repertoire is filled with delightful surprises of obscure ballads, novelty tunes, clever vocaleses, and, of course, the all time favorite standards.
TRUDI has appeared at the Texas Jazz Festival; in Las Vegas and innumerable rooms and clubs, across the country. Before settling permanently on Long Island, TRUDI MANN & MEN entertained at Lake George, Gurney's Inn, in Montauk, a summer run in a Pocono Mountains resort and a summer run in a Catskill Resort Hotel, where they were credited with changing the 'face of music' in those areas, with their intricate vocal arrangements. She has appeared in concerts in Mexico.
In the metropolitan area she has appeared at Trumpets, Birdland and numerous occasions at the world renowned Village Gate; Trudy Heller's, Burt Bachrach's, Broadcaster's Inn, The Riverboat, Cleopatra's Needle, Chez Suzette, Jan Wallman's, Judy's, Harlem's famous Cotton Club, Yardbird Suite, Danny's Skylight Room, Arci's, and many appearances at the world famous St. Peter's Church Jazz Vespers and the Jazz at Noon Series. There have been numerous library and festival concerts on Long Island.
Currently, and for the past 16 years, she has hosted New York City's premiere open mic for singers.
She is a member of the prestigious Friar's Club, Beaux Arts Society, Society of Singers, New York Sheet Music Society and the Manhattan Association of Cabarets. She was a part of the Distinguished Artists Series on Long Island and was a
finalist in the 1998/99 NY State Ms. Sr. America Pageant. Her CD ....mmmmmm....TRUDI MANN! has been reviewed in England, and received play in South Africa, Australia, Germany, Poland and Japan. It is currently available from her website.
